What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan is a living, forward-looking policy document that will guide land use, development, and community investments in the City of Mechanicville for the next decade. The Plan will establish an aspirational, yet feasible vision for Mechanicville’s future and define policy focus areas, goals, and short- and long-term strategies for achieving the City’s vision. Mechanicville’s Comprehensive Plan will guide decision-making in the following areas:
Land Use and Zoning
The Plan will guide growth toward the City’s existing centers and developed areas.
Environmental Protection
The Plan will establish policies to safeguard natural assets and enhance climate resiliency.
Economic Development
The Plan will identify areas for business growth, workforce needs, and economic opportunity for all.
Housing Strategy
The Plan will recommend ways to provide diverse housing types and affordability levels to meet current and future residential needs.
Transportation
The Plan will identify opportunities to improve connectivity and safety for everyone, including options for multi-modal access.
Community Services
The Plan will evaluate future community needs for parks, schools, healthcare facilities, and other public services that support community health and well-being.
Grant Acquisition
A Smart Growth-aligned plan is a prerequisite for many New York State funding streams. This document will make Mechanicville more competitive for grant opportunities.

What makes this a Smart Growth Comprehensive Plan?
The City of Mechanicville Comprehensive Plan is funded by the NYS Smart Growth Community Planning Grant Program. It will incorporate Smart Growth Principles to guide land use policies and community development practices to enhance livability, sustainability, and equity in the City of Mechanicville.
